Great campsites - spacious, wooded, flat. NO mosquitoes, which is very unusual for Minnesota. We didn't believe the "noticeable lack of mosquitoes" claim and packed plenty of bug spray for hiking, but didn't use it at all, not even in the woods or after sundown. Our older son (13) enjoyed the beautiful and challenging hiking trails, but some of them were not safe for our younger children. Beach was sandy, but water looked unappealing. Only one of the shower buildings has been renovated, but it was accessible to most campsites in the upper campground. We plan on making this campground an annual destination.
This is a very well maintained, friendly campground. Our site was wide, level, and very shaded. The fire pit was the best we've had at any campground. The bathrooms are clean, relatively new, and have plenty of hot water. The main building had a variety of activities, and there were a couple playgrounds and a volleyball area. The staff is GREAT, very friendly, and helpful. Quiet time after 10:30 p.m. (and before) is the norm, and campers generally respect the posted speed limit of 5 mph. The only two reasons we don't give this campground a perfect 10 is the road noise and the pool's small size and location. With the campground being directly adjacent to the very busy Hwy 42, the noise from the passing cars is constant throughout the day and well into the night. The pool looked bigger in the pictures - in reality it is smaller than many residential pools - and is situated right next to the entrance and just a short distance from the highway traffic. However, with all the positives this campground presents, the negatives are minor in comparison. Definitely warrants return visits!
